TIERRA DEL OJO emerged as a response to the need to create and elevate
oneself amidst a complicated world.
This eclectic land seeks to reclaim ancestral symbols, freeing them from
negative connotations in order to empower us through art.
Though its focus is visual, Tierra
del Ojo is not confined to any specific style, discipline, or format. It
deeply values the subjective distinction triggered by a first impression in
each viewer—this moment becomes the driving force behind the effort not to go
unnoticed (which is quite difficult in a world saturated with images,
especially in these times with the rise of A.I., or artificial intelligence).
Emphasis is placed on form,
prioritizing the personal aesthetic experience over the original concept—one
that, in this kind of creation, does not aim to impose itself or devour the
image. This imposition has led to a decline in visual language, particularly in
education and exhibitions within the legitimized spaces of what is known as
“The Institution of Official Art,” meaning museums, galleries, university
education, and auctions. Therefore, Tierra del Ojo takes a stance in
opposition to the conceptualist trend that has long affected visual language.
This space not only exhibits
original creations, but also celebrates and shares what motivates and
inspires—from audiovisual works to literature, music, and more.
The common thread, though not
always, is often a kind of “sweetened darkness” and creation for the
sheer pleasure of it—highlighting the importance of creating in order to see
and enjoy. Yet it does so without forgetting the concept linked to
creation itself, since everything begins in the world of ideas. However,
the intention here is to transcend that world and to value the viewers’ reinterpretations,
which, in Tierra del Ojo, are understood as branches and expansions of
the original work created by an author.
Within this context, we emphasize
resistance to the complete automation of art by artificial
intelligence—though we do accept its use as a tool or time-saver in certain
processes. We care about works that carry a certain level of quality, and we
stress the need to preserve human creativity in the face of technology’s
growing influence. We support technology as a tool, not as the orchestra
conductor.
Ultimately, Tierra del Ojo
presents itself as a seedbed of ideas, where the interpretation of the
"world of ideas" is materialized through the creative process. With a
philosophy that embraces magic, nature, and energy, it seeks not only to
create, but also to offer an energetic process as a contribution to the
world—understanding art as an act of psychomagic, drawing inspiration
from Alejandro Jodorowsky’s vision of what he calls “Psychomagical Art.” In Tierra
del Ojo, this concept is used to transcend dimensions and converge at a
point where heart, mind, and material reality intertwine. This is the map
toward our Tierra del Ojo.
Note: On the night of Tuesday, April 26th, 2022—very late—I
discovered Alejandro Jodorowsky. I’m embarrassed by my ignorance; I had heard
his name before, but I never imagined that his thinking would resonate with me
so deeply. Then I saw that he is an artist, filmmaker, surrealist—and I
wondered how I only came to discover him at age 93!
Not long ago, I heard someone mention psychomagic, and I felt that what
I want to do in Tierra del Ojo might in many ways have something to do
with that. But I didn’t know where the concept came from, and today, while
Googling, I found Alejandro Jodorowsky.
In the end, maybe life meant to give me this little gift just now. Knowing that
someone like him exists in this world—and that his ideas resonate with mine so
strongly—filled me with joy and optimism.
